DANsE MACABRE ('DaNce of death')
'Dance of Death' is based around the fate of my grandmother, one shared by a big part of my family and millions of Jews, Gypsies and others facing extermination in Nazi concentration camps.
As the generation of survivors and witnesses passes away, a sense of responsibility is generated in third generation survivors to carry on the memory of the Holocaust.
Reflecting on the traumas carried through generations, a scratched glass was placed in front on representatives of four generations in my family.
The inspiration for the aesthetic was my Grandmother’s habit of scratching her face on photographs, a reaction to a sense of powerlessness and anger she carried from her traumas.
A sense of both voulerability and persistence is present on each portrait.
